Brian T, John, and I decided to play our matches down to the wire.
Brian T played the first match of the night, against Ray, a 3:3.
Brian lost the first two games, narrowly. He came back and won the
next two games. In the deciding game, he had a shot on the 8 with
several of Ray's balls still on the table. Unfortunately, he had no
easy shots and had to try to bank the 8 back to a corner pocket.
Instead, the 8 slid into a side pocket.

I played Rich in a 2:6 in the 4th match of the night. I played close
in several of the first 5 games, shooting on the 8 in 3 of them, but
in each case, I only had one shot and I subsequently lost those
games. In the sixth game, I got down early, but came back and won the
game, finally sinking the 8 when I had my chance. Same story in the
seventh game. 5 shots on the 8. 2 victories. I squeaked out a win
5-2.

John played Mike in an 2:8 in the final match of the night. John
spotted Mike 7 victories, then came back with a nice run to take the
eighth game. He then spotted Mike a several ball advantage in the
deciding game, and once again came back to run ~5 balls and shoot on
the 8. The 8 rattled in the corner pocket and Mike immediately sank
his object ball and the 8. John fell 8-1. 12:45. Time for everyone
to go home.

Craig and Brian R decided not make things so interesting.

Craig played Jim in a 2:6 (?). Craig took the first game, then ceded
a game or two to Jim. Craig came back and won the third (fourth?)
game and took the match 2-1 (2-2?).

Brian R played Jesse in a 2:6. Brian took the first game with a
couple of nice runs. Jesse got up a couple of balls in the second
game, but then sank the 8 in the wrong pocket. Brian prevails 2-0.

So, we went 3-2 on the night. We are still in first place, one game
up on the Cue Strokers and two games up on Mr mR (Liz's team), who we
play next week.

Cheers...

Paul

ps: Craig, Brian R, and I entered the night with 8 handicaps. We
remain tied, now at 10.
