While serverless computing and FaaS have emerged as the dominant
choice for mobile applications, their transformative potential
within the context of edge-native applications, e.g., in the Internet
of Things, remains largely unexplored. The objective of SEATED is
to bridge this gap by investigating how the edge, possibly in
combination with the cloud, can unlock new opportunities for
serverless/FaaS in distributed applications and services, which
often possess unique requirements and structural differences. SEATED
aims to build a scientific-oriented forum for research and industrial
communities to present and discuss their latest results, ongoing
work, and emerging research directions regarding serverless at the
edge. Managing edge resources for high-performance, scientific, and
general-purpose serverless applications is an open research field,
which covers many aspects of distributed systems, including computing,
state and data management, workflow management, and resource
orchestration. Furthermore, complex serverless applications require
top-notch hardware accelerators, emerging virtualization, and
enhanced security.

The SEATED workshop welcomes full research papers, describing novel
research contributions and innovative applications, work-in-progress papers,
with less developed ideas on hot topics, and technical demonstrations.

** IMPORTANT DATES

Important dates:

Paper submission deadline: **March 1, 2024**
Author notification: April 4, 2024
Camera-ready deadline: April 18, 2024
Event date:                  June 3||4, 2024

** TOPICS OF INTEREST

The topics of interest for the workshop include the following:

- Distributed serverless engines at the edge
- FaaS application models and workflows
- Monitoring of serverless resources at the edge
- Distributed Service Level Agreement management for serverless at the edge
- Edge resource orchestration and function run-time scheduling
- Edge-specific serverless security and privacy
- Distributed data access and distribution for serverless applications
- Function execution models in resource-constrained devices
- Computation offloading on specialised hardware
- Lightweight virtualisation tools and techniques applied to serverless
- ML/AI approaches for distributed serverless orchestration and data management
- Integration of edge and cloud for hybrid serverless platforms
- Innovative applications for serverless at the edge

** PAPER SUBMISSIONS

We accept three types of submissions:

- Regular papers (max 8 pages): innovative works whose claims are
supported by solid justifications.

- Short papers (max 4 pages): position or work-in-progress papers.

- Demo papers (max 2 pages): long abstracts describing a technical
demonstration to be run live during the workshop.

Papers can be submitted until March 1, 2024 (midnight PST).

Each submitted manuscript will undergo a rigorous peer review process
by at least three PC members.

Papers should be formatted in the ACM Proceedings Style
(https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template) and submitted
on the workshop HotCRP website (https://seated24.hotcrp.com/).

Submitted papers must be original work that has not appeared in and
is not under consideration for another conference or a journal.
