=======================================================================
          CALL FOR PAPERS (SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED)

=======================================================================

              The First International Workshop on the

Environmental Sustainability of High-Performance Software (SHiPS 2023)

                https://site.unibo.it/ships23/en

                      In conjunction with:

Supercomputing 2023 - The International Conference for High Performance

        Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis (SC 2023)
=======================================================================

Nowadays, sustainability is becoming a key challenge in science as in many human activities. As it is declined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by United Nations member states in 2015, the term intertwines the need for a more socially just society with the protection of planetary boundaries. High performance computing systems shall play their part in the achievement of such an ambitious goal, not only by investigating ways to reduce their environmental impact at hardware level, but also by studying the sustainability of high performance algorithms, proposing methods and tools to assess the sustainability of parallel software in practice, and also by defining parallel programming paradigms intrinsically oriented to sustainability.

* The workshop would welcome contributions related to:
- sustainability of parallel and high-performance scientific algorithms,
- sustainability of decentralized algorithms
- sustainable AI
- sustainable machine learning algorithms
- theoretical models for algorithm’s environmental footprint
- theoretical models for sustainability
- sustainability-oriented parallel programming paradigms
- sustainability-oriented HPC schedulers and tools

Submissions of full research papers must be in English, in PDF format, between 6 to 12 double-column pages including the references and figures, using the ACM proceedings template (https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template).In order to submit the paper to the workshop, the same submission procedure used by the main conference will be used; an account will have to be created in the online submission system (https://submissions.supercomputing.org/). Then, under the tab "Make a new submission" locate the link to "SC23 Workshop: SHiPS" and complete the required form. A sample form can be viewed here before signing in.

* Important Dates (AoE)
Paper submission deadline: 21 July 2023 (EXTENDED)
Notification to authors: 8 September 2023
Camera-Ready submission: 29 September 2023
Conference dates: 12-17 November 2023

* Proceedings and Post Proceedings
All accepted papers are planned to be published in the SC Workshops Proceedings volume.
