This is how it is supposed to work

In Linux
-when you adjust "line-in" or "microphone" levels
 you are adjusting how loudly these streams will be sent out over the speakers
-you will want to turn them down to ZERO
-you only need to adjust the "igain" slider to adjust how


IMHO RAT should
-still let you choose "mic-in" or "line in" (is anyone using mic-in?)
-but the slider ought to adjust "igain" (maybe it does in the latest versions)

i favor using aumix for adjusting the levels
