I think there are a few systems still out there running 1.5, but not many. Intrepid runs 1.5 by default, but I think you can modify it with softenv. There was another machine called sisboombah that only had 1.5. I don't have any strong feelings about it one way or another, but it's a probably a good idea to come up with a list of what is supported (version, IBM java, openjdk?) and add it to the list of things we test before a new release.
