sieve-dev status of sieve examples

Greetings
I am running into considerable difficulty trying to get the sieve examples
to compile. I am working with the latest development version and so far none
of the ex1-12 examples compile. Almost all the examples abort with an error
from ALE. Any ideas/suggestions?

I am running fedora 13 with gcc 4.4.4.
