Sorry for the delay in responding, thanks for the error report. It was a bug in our use of VecGetArray/VecRestoreArray() in our VecScatter routines.
I have fixed it in the branch barry/fix-vecgetarrayscatter and your example should run correctly on the branch with no memory error.
