   Note that no constraints are reached at the first iterations despite the terrible convergence. I suspect something is wrong with either the formulation or the Jacobian (that is nothing to do with the constraints). What do you get with the same options if you do not set any constraints? The same terrible convergence or something different (send it). In PETSc 3.9 you can run with the option -snes_test_jacobian to see if the Jacobians are accurate or out of whack.
