If you want a small download of latest petsc-dev, I recommend

$ git clone --depth 1 https://bitbucket.org/petsc/petsc

This is fast, downloads only 10 MB, and you can update later using 'git pull'.

The tarball accidentally included the entire Git history, which is why
it was so large.  Satish will fix this.
