   Just remove the error checking

  ierr = PetscObjectTypeCompare((PetscObject)A,MATMPIAIJ,&flg);CHKERRQ(ierr);
  if (!flg) SETERRQ(PetscObjectComm((PetscObject)A),PETSC_ERR_SUP,"This function requires a MATMPIAIJ matrix as input"); 

from

MatMPIAIJGetSeqAIJ()

this routine should be rewritten to use the PetscUseMethod macro and not check the type explicitly.
