For now I'll change:
PETSC_VERSION_DATE -> PETSC_RELEASE_DATE
PETSC_VERSION_PATCH_DATE -> PETSC_VERSION_DATE
[and keep things as before.]. Too many changes before relese - and I'm not
sure what could be breaking.

Yeah bunch of scripts need fixing with the new version scheme.
