I don't know MPT very well, but this looks like a bug in the MPI
implementation. I see that there is a MPT-1.23 on some systems: can
your machine administrators install that? Maybe the problem has been
fixed?
parallel-netcdf makes a lot heavier use of the MPI library than serial
netcdf, so it does not surprise me that you don't see this error with
serial netcdf.
You mentioned a backtrace. It'd be helpful to share that, even if you
only have debugging symbols for pnetcdf and your application. For
example, do you see this when you open the file, when you exit define
mode, when you write the first variable? the Nth variable?
