Hi,
yes, I think that for Lagrangian particle tracking such a regularisation
is absolutely needed such that the force field is smooth, and peaks in
the actual location of the particle. Depending on the function one uses
to distribute the force, one does not need to calculate the indices.
There are a couple of references in the literature that do such an
approach, see e.g. Zhao, Andersson and Gillissen, 2010.
