There is a similar switch in the .par file but it is enabled by default for PnPn and variable properties (viscosity) otherwise you'll get wrong results.
I don't know the answer to your 2nd question.

Hi Nek forum
I am trying to use the variable property mode for the latest version of nek5000. I have some confusion with respect to the ###.par file in the latest version vs ###.rea file of the older version.
1) In order to use the stress formulation for space dependent viscosity, is it sufficient to just enable variable properties(viscosity,Cp,conductivity) by setting "variableproperties" to "yes" in the ###.par file and no other switch (like IFSTRS in the ###.rea file) is required.
2) Is it correct to use the variable properties for the perturbations part of linearised NS which uses Pn-Pn-2 formulation?
Please advise.
Thank you
Swarandeep
