Hi Jayesh,

Thank you very much you figured out the problem. I did not specify an x64 application and this time the linking errors disappeared! Nevertheless there were new errors during execution, then I searched your previous post on mpich-discuss forum and uninstalled my mpich2 and reinstalled it by "run as administrator". Now everything works great and my multi-core PC acts as a mini-supercomputer! Kinda exciting :-)

Thank you very much again!

Tianle

Hi,
Did you make sure that you are building a 64-bit application (The default in VS is 32-bit)? It is possible that you installed the 64-bit version of MPICH2 and have been trying to build a 32-bit executable. Also make sure that you specify the dependency libs, include paths etc for the new configuration (If you change the configuration from 32-bit to x64).

(PS: MPICH2 64-bit installer does not install 32-bit libs and vice versa. Although this could be changed we don't have the developer bandwidth for doing that right now.)
Regards,
Jayesh

Hello Jayesh,

Thank you very much for your reply. Actually I have followed the manual ("MPICH2 Windows Development Guide Version 1.4.1" ) and I have specified fmpich2.lib in the additional dependencies. I just tried the examples.sln you mentioned and the error messages during linking appeared similar, which I include in the attached txt file. Please have a look.

Thanks,

Hi,
What are the dependency libraries that you have specified in Visual Studio (The error messages seem to suggest that you did not specify the MPICH2 dependency library, fmpich2.lib, when you compiled your code)?
You can use "C:\Program Files\MPICH2\examples\examples.sln" as a template for your building your code.

Regards,
Jayesh

Dear Dr. Ewing Lusk,

This is Tianle Cheng from National Energy Technology Laboratory. I'm writing to seek for help on using MPICH2, knowing that you are developer of it. My computer system is Dell T7500 workstation, with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I have installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and Intel Visual Fortran compiler v11.1, and I would like to use MPICH2 to run some small parallel jobs on my computer. While I have followed the manual of "MPICH2 Windows Development Guide Version 1.4.1" (see the attached "Configuration steps following manual"), there are always linking errors as listed in the attached "error messages".
I'll appreciate it very much if you could help me to figure out the problem or forward my email to some responsible support team.

Thank you very much!
(I have sent this email to Dr. Pavan Balaji, getting an automatic response that he's on travel).
