[mpich-discuss] problem in configuring mpich2

It looks like you ran "autoreconf -vif" instead of "./maint/updatefiles", or you somehow have a bad tarball of MPICH2.

Please try using the published tarball here: http://www.mcs.anl.gov/research/projects/mpich2/downloads/tarballs/1.4/mpich2-1.4.tar.gz

... and don't attempt to maint/updatefiles or autoreconf at all.  Just run configure (with any appropriate arguments.
