Hi Pavan,
There wasn't any specific reason. I think we started using whatever was
easily available with mpich2-1.0.
If MPD is going to be discontinued, then we need to move to process
manager, which is going to be there for long time, and has similar (or
better) interface and performance.
Is Hydra good choice? Or, other better choices available?

Is there a reason you need to use MPD? MPD is deprecated as of the
mpich2-1.3 series, and might be discontinued at some point in the
future. SMP vs. multi-machine usage is irrelevant for general purpose
process managers.
