[mpich-discuss] Regarding ROMIO package installation with MPICH2 and LAM-MPI

OK. You have already an MPI implementation.

mpicc and mpif90 are wrappers that make "a bit more" than just calling 
gcc and gfortran. That could explain your error.
Do you run "configure" with gfortran and gcc ?
