Hi,
Yes, you can run your MPI jobs across Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows machines. However MPICH2 currently only supports homogeneous systems (all the machines must have the same architecture or the compilers used to compile the programs should follow the same data model) & since SMPD is the only process manager available on Windows you will have to re-configure MPICH2 to use SMPD as the process manager (Follow the instructions available in the MPICH2 installer's guide - http://www.mcs.anl.gov/research/projects/mpich2/documentation/index.php?s=docs - for installing MPICH2 with the SMPD process manager).
AFAIK, there is no GUI front-end for MPICH2 on Unix systems.
