If you are running on a single node, why do you need MVAPICH2?  The
differences between MVAPICH2 and MPICH2 are primarily with respect to
Infiniband support.

If you insist on using MVAPICH2, then contact them for support of MPD
within their distribution.  If you switch to MPICH2 and can reproduce
the error, then you can post that to this list.  The latest version of
MPICH2 has an excellent PM called Hydra, which eliminates many issues
one might face with MPD.
