Hi,
Is your windows OS 32-bit or 64-bit ?
Did you install MPICH2 for all users (The installer prompts whether MPICH2 should be installed for "Just me" or "Everyone" - the default is "Just me")? Try installing MPICH2 (uninstall previous version of MPICH2; Open an admin command prompt by right-clicking on the command prompt icon and selecting "run as administrator"; Run "msiexec /i mpich2-1.2.1-win-ia32.msi" from the admin command prompt to install MPICH2; During installation select that MPICH2 be installed for "Everyone") for all users and check if the problem persists.
Regards,
Jayesh

The firewall was disabled. I have stopped the firewall service, but still got the same error.
Yes, I recompiled my code after installing mpich2 using my computer (32 bits, Windows 7, Visual C++ 9).
However, my code does not seem to be the cause, since it does not have any impact on the mpiexec program.
Can I get much more details (log file, ...) which could help you diagnose my problem ?
Regards,
Eric

Thanks Jayesh for the answer.
I did what you indicate in your mail.
"mpiexec -register" prompts for my account, preceeded by the domain [ALYOTECH-FR\eric.monteux].
I pressed enter then entered my password twice, and got the message "Password encrypted into the registry".
I still got the error message "Aborting: connection to smpd rejected" when launching "mpiexec -validate".
Any ideas ?
Regards,
Eric

Hi,
>>> mpiexec -validate (NOK, I get the following error message: Aborting: connection to smpd rejected)
Here is your problem. The "-validate" command should be successful.
Is the user a domain user (In that case did you specify the domain name when registering the username)?
Can you try pressing enter (The enter key) when "mpiexec -register" prompts for a username (Then mpiexec should pick the current username)? After using the default/current username please specify the password for the user when mpiexec prompts for the password.
Also we recommend installing the 64-bit version of MPICH2 if your windows OS is 64-bit.
Let us know if it works for you.
Regards,
Jayesh

Hello.
I have troubles to use MPICH2 with Windows 7 32 bits.
Installation is OK (installation program mpich-1.2.1-win-ia32.msi).
The smpd service is up and running.
Then I open a windows command with administrator privileges, and try to register, using the following commands:
mpiexec -remove (OK)
mpiexec -register (with my domain name, user name & password) (OK)
mpiexec -validate (NOK, I get the following error message: Aborting: connection to smpd rejected)
When I try to lauch a MPI program of my own, compiled with MPICH2 and MSVC2008, I get the following error message:
Aborting: unable to connect to grimbergen.alyotech.fr (grimbergen is my host name).
I also tried to use wmpiconfig to get the hosts, then retrieve the settings of my computer grimbergen.
I then get the error message "GRIMBERGEN: MPICH2 not installed or unable to query the host".
I tried to turn off the firewall, and to add "mpiexec" and "smpd" to the list of progams allowed by the firewall, but without success.
I tried to add MPICH2\bin directory to the system path, without success too.
Is there any configuration tuning I can try to use MPICH2 with Windows 7 ?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Eric Monteux.
