I think that message is just a consequence of hitting ^C on the  
mpiexec, not the actual underlying problem.  Despite your thorough  
explanations of the symptoms you are seeing, it's not at all clear  
what the real problem is here.

Please try hydra instead (mpiexec.hydra).  Hydra will be the default  
process manager in the upcoming release and is generally faster and  
more reliable than mpd:
