the working machine shows "Python 2.4.4 (#1, Jan 10 2007, 01:25:01) [C]
on sunos5"
the not working machine shows "Python 2.2.2 (#2, Jan 16 2005, 22:47:24)
[GCC 3.2.3] on sunos5"

Try running "/usr/bin/env python" on that machine.
