[MPICH] MPICH 1 or 2: heterogeneous data representation?

Hello,

I'm about to configure a cluster system with:
  master = Intel/Xeon Pentium4

  nodes =
      Intel/Xeon 32 bits
      Intel/Itanium 64 bits
      Alpha/Ev65

*ALL* of these machines run Linux CentOS 4.4.

Now, I don't know whether "heterogeneous data
representation" is an issue here, because they
are all running the same OS.
Is the OS or the hardware relevant?

Hence I don't know whether to choose MPICH1 or
MPICH2.
