I think I see where you are coming from - it seems that you
are faced with getting MPICH2 working on someone else's cluster.
I am surprised and a little concerned at Rajeev's advice that
MPICH2 won't work on a heterogenous cluster. I used to have
accounts on AIX and SG machines and could have tried this out
- but no longer. I will install MPICH2 on a sparc 64 bit
machine that I have an account on and see if I can bring it
into the ring. I also may get access to a Mac G5. These things
will take time.
The reason that I have built my own clusters as funds permit
is that the very large cluster that is available to me is not
worth the haggle - if one requests too many nodes one goes to
the end of a long queue. My ultimate aim is to use the
specialist application CRYSTAL03, but I do not have the
appetite to handle the third party in connection with licence
arrangements.
Sorry that I can't help in better detail
regards,
Phil Lavers
