Yes, but nothing that gives me any clue about the problem.  I don't know 
much about network configuration, and have no idea even where to start 
loooking for more.

That works!  (With MPICH2, haven't tried the regular MPICH yet.) Now if 
only I understood why...  But what the heck: a magic spell is a magic 
spell, right?
