Log:
The AC_CHECK_HEADER call I added yesterday seems to really mess up the 
configure script (e.g. fails to detect stdlib.h).  I think this might
be because the call was made before AC_PROG_LIBTOOL.  Anyway, moving it
to a location later in the configure script seems to fix the problem.
