itaps-parallel Phone conf?

Lori,

It will be good a idea to schedule a phone conf. for ITAPS SC08 tutorial,
especially discussing hands-on part of it.

In this regard, we have been trying to outline our contribution to
hands-on portion of ITAPS tutorial in SC08 at Austin. We specifically
discussed (among RPI teams members) about mesh-adaptation service built on
iMeshP (and iMesh).

We can provide a demonstration on a parallel case that starts with coarse
mesh, carries out non-uniform mesh-refinement and re-partition the refined
mesh (using Zoltan's dynamic service). We have discussed for such a
demonstration case along with Karen and Vitus too.

We would like to know if you have any comments on it. We would also like
to know if you have any suggestions on what kind of other potentially
useful demonstrations we can provide, for example, demonstration involving
more mesh-modification operations (such as edge swaps and/or collapses) or
general set of communication utilities based on mesh-entities through
iMeshP that are useful from an analysis code (FE code) point of view.

We want to mention that we would like to have something more than
elementary examples (something more than mesh queries or samples of
ghosting). There are two major reasons to reserve more time for somewhat
advanced examples:

(a) Lot of audience will gain new things from advanced examples with
specific focus on parallel/iMeshP and they hopefully will not feel like
yet another set of software libraries for meshing, geometry and fields.
More importantly I think it would be good if they form opinion (after the
tutorial) on ITAPS as provider of necessary interoperable tools (that have
been implemented to good extent) for large-scale simulations and are
currently missing from their suite of existing tools.

(b) Examples falling under elementary category can possibly be
covered to good extent in documents (like previous presentations and/or
hand-outs) and do not necessarily require hands-on session.

Please let us know your inputs as it would help to outline our
contribution for hands-on part of ITAPS tutorial in SC08.
