itaps-parallel Mesh machine turning off this wed

Tim:
Based on the responses from the people developing examples, taking the mesh
machine away would be detrimental to our ability to have good examples for
SC08. Ting is working hard to perfect her iMeshP implementation, as we
exercise features and uncover issues. Vitus and I are updating our examples
as the FMDB implementation matures. Ryan needs time to port and test his
examples. We also need time for the guinea pigs to walk through the
examples on the machine, to ensure that they really work and make sense.
And we still need ParaView to be installed on the machine (can one of your
sysadmins do that for us?).
In short, we need a Plan B. Using remote log-ins from SC08 to Wisconsin is
the best plan I can think of. This plan allows us to continue working on
the implementations and examples, removes the risk of damage to the machine
during transit, and eliminates the need for you to set up the machine on
SC's network on, presumably, Saturday. It does have drawbacks, with slower
connection speeds and the need for a Wisconsin person to be on call for
reboots.
What ideas do you have?
Thanks.
Karen
