In fact, it builds nothing except libcgma_init and libiGeom.  Autotools
are still opaque to me, everything in geom/.deps/*.Plo has just one line

  # dummy

where as init/.deps/InitCGMA.Plo and itaps/.deps/*.Plo has correct
dependencies.  Any ideas what is causing this?  The treatment looks the
same in Makefile.in so I'm suspicious of configure.
