[AG-TECH] Access Grid 3.1 and LinkSys Router

Hi Ed,

I'm think you need to use the router to forward the relevant ports to the local machine.

This is basically creating a 'WAN' to 'LAN' rule.

You'll need to make sure the PC uses the same address each time (this can be done by 'fixing' the IP address assignment of the router's DHCP server if your PC gets its IP address automatically from the router).

You'll find instructions on setting up port forwarding on your router (and many others) at the following address:

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

What you're trying to do is allow traffic to pass through the firewall and get transferred your PC. Generally speaking, all audio and video traffic arrives as UDP packets, so you will need to forward this traffic (which will be arriving at a range of ports).

The rule will be something like:

Forward UDP 10000-10999 to 192.168.1.3

There are various firewall documents for AG Toolkit. The following shows the ports used by AG clients:

http://www.ja.net/services/video/agsc/technical-information/porttable.html

You just need to look at the AG Toolkit Bridged section. As far as I know, you only need to forward the UDP traffic onto your local PC. All other ports are outbound TCP connections created by your local PC, i.e. your firewall doesn't need configuring for those.

Let me know how you get on,

Cheers, Ben.

Subject: [AG-TECH] Access Grid 3.1 and LinkSys Router

I am running Access Grid 3.1 on Windows XP.

I am using a LinkSys Wireless router (wrt54g).

I can connect to Venue Servers but the video is not working.

It constantly says:

"Waiting for video".. And never comes on.

When I disconnect the router and plug my computer internet connection directly into the cable modem (provided by my ISP provider). everything (including the video) works correctly.

Any suggestions on how to make Access Grid work with my LinkSys Wireless router?

Thanks,

Ed Sykes
