Quick reply re using mute buttons on mics, and an additional reason
for NOT using them ...

Yes, the buttons work.  Yes, the retrain time is quickish.  Yes,
even 30 seconds is a long time in a tense meeting.

However, remember the ancient truth: the person causing an echo
problem is the ONLY person who CAN'T hear the problem.  No apologies
about use of capitals in the above.

Hence, the person using the mute buttons is the one person who doesn't
hear any disturbance (large or small) that their action causes.
