At the least:

Install the latest patches from redhat (definitely the latest kernel 
anyway); you'll need the glibc fixes as well.

Turn all services off that you don't need - you actually shouldn't have to 
have any of the standard ports open on the machine. Run

         nmap hostname

to see what's open.
