Turn off filesharing, don't use Outlook or Internet Explorer (there
are alternatives such as Mozilla), and run Windows Update weekly.

Make sure all accounts have good passwords.  Often overlooked is the
local Administrator account, which is often left with blank password,
leaving the system wide open to attack.
