I disagree. The single biggest issue with any conference where microphones are used,
is good quality audio. Having individual control provides the ability to turn off
those mics which are not used and for individuals who do not plan on speaking. Also
many times people bring in laptops. Between clicking keys and others shuffling papers
audio quality can go down hill real fast. We routinely turn off mics so as not to
interrupt other speakers. Very true with regular video conferencing due to video
switching as well as streaming where very clear audio very important.
