As shipped, both vic and rat have a 1500 octet maximum packet size hard
coded. This can easily be increased, if you're willing to recompile the
tools.

Increasing the packet size might help vic if you use a codec that generates
large frames. It won't help with rat, since none of the audio codec frames
are that large (and bundling multiple frames per packet just increases the
latency).
