[AG-TECH] AG Retreat 2003

Obviously too late to do anything about for this AG Retreat, but, speaking
personally, I would hope that Many's experience would have a bearing on
decisions about the siting of future AG conferences. If certain conference
sites have a discriminative entrance policy on grounds of country of origin
(or similar), then other sites should be chosen instead.

One thing I love about the AG (and the academic environment in general) is
its inclusive nature. It leaves a bitter taste to think that whilst I can
attend the AG Retreat, others can't, just because of where we were born.

We must take a stand against the erosions of freedom that have, step by
step, been taking place in many countries (mine too) since 9-11.

Out of solidarity to colleagues such as Many, I for one will think long and
hard before going to future conferences where attendance is restricted on
such spurious grounds.
