I am one that tested with Paul. I am using RaT 4.2.10. If it helps
It was when talk was 'muted'/disabled that he could talk.

Thanks for responding.  I did a check for full duplex.  According to 
a web site: I started sound recorder twice and played a siren on one 
and recorded it on the other.  Performed fine.  I installed a 
different driver and no change.

specs:
sony vaio  PCG - FX 300 laptop
Win 2000 Pro
SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio
   driver: 5.12.1.3022

Any help would be appreciated.
