Belay that. I've just tried again and it compiles & runs OK
(AccessGrid-rat-4.2.22-2.src & gcc3.2.2 on Slack 9).

BTW the current binary rpm of rat does _not_ have ALSA support. The code
is there but not enabled. The rat configure script looks for ALSA 0.5
libraries before enabling it, so evidently the binary was compiled on a
machine without ALSA 0.5. I'm not sure if this is considered a bug?

On the subject of ALSA, people are probably aware that ALSA is the
default audio in Linux 2.6 (there's a test3 version now available). The
API is quite different to that used for ALSA support in the current rat
code. We've had someone working on rat to support the new API and a
working version is being tested. We're hoping to release a beta for
wider testing later this week.
