There's a set of slides I put together a couple months ago that lay out a
setup & testing procedure. At some point these'll be put together into an
AGDP document ...
The basic sequence is this:
Install hardware.
Perform basic Gentner setup (coarse level setting, set up presets per
http://www.accessgrid.org/agdp/howto/config-gentner-ap400.html)
Set Gentner mic levels
Set output / speaker volume levels.
Test with rat and reflector
Test on-grid.
If you make it all the way through the calibration & setup steps, you
should have little problem with actual AG use.
The tutorial slides are at
http://www-unix.mcs.anl.gov/~olson/AG/AudioTutorial/AudioTutorial.htm
Regarding the problem you mention: Do you see levels in rat for incoming
audio? If you bring up rat's Options window, go to Audio, and turn on the
test tone, do you hear a tone? If not, check the Gentner level meter for
the input the PC/MM100 output is connected to. If there's no level there,
you probably have a cabling problem. If there is, check the routing and the
cabling path to your speakers.
