I have seen this same problem, but not associated with an omniview switchbox.
It happened when I only had a single keyboard, mouse, and monitor to go between
my two linux AG machines.  The keyboard and mouse cables were indistinguishable
from each other and a couple times I accidentally plugged them in reversed
(mouse line into keyboard input, and vice versa).  When I did this, and moved
the mouse, it hung the machine 90% of the time.  I think the bug report should
go to Belkin to have them make sure that the ps2 lines don't get switched when
switching from one port to another.

On a Side note, I've noticed that the belkins behave much better when you take
your time with them (i.e., don't try to flip through the entire set of ports in
half a second).
