Are you running a beacon on the subnet your node is attached to? I see a 
beacon at charon.ummu.umich.edu; is this on that network? If it is, there 
are indeed multicast connectivity problems. Do you have your campus network 
folks involved? They can send mail to multicast-support at accessgrid.org with 
the details; Bill Nickless can likely help out.
