Audio loopback in linux kernel?

OK, so we got the Sound Blaster PCI/128 card, and the demo version of the
OSS drivers. For PCI cards, the configuration program for the drivers
(soundconfig) will only allow the card to be auto-detected, as opposed to
selected from a list. It decides that our card is a "Sound Blaster PCI /
Ensoniq Audio PCI97 (ES1371/ES1373)".

The problem is that we are still getting the loopback, and the mute*
variables that setup-mixer tries to alter are not there. (I can't send the
output of ossmix right now, but I've looked at it and they're not
there.) One of the README files that came with the drivers implies that
they ought to be there, but they're not. Any ideas or comments?
