If you could try this out, and send patches to the rat folks, that would be 
cool. I'm not putting effort into the OSS rat stuff since I really want to 
bail on that and use ALSA.

I'm not sure. I do know I have some, and it works fine with alsa. ALSA is 
closely tracking new hw releases..
