The only record I find of this issue is bug 1307 in our bugzilla:

which was filed by you.  I don't have a solution for the problem and
unfortunately don't have much time to look at it presently, but
if you dig into it I'd be willing to help out where I can (I've been
involved in building the Gentoo ebuilds to date).

Let me know if you start to look, so we can stay in synch if I find
time to look at it.
