TIME:			10:30 am
PLACE: Building 221 Conference Room A216

			Professor of Computer Science, Informatics, and

TALK TITLE: Building Applications as Web Services
HOSTED BY: 		Ian Foster

Abstract:

We explore architectures for traditional applications like Word built
using
a MVC (Model View Control) paradigm with the Model as a Web Service;
View
as a lightweight rendering
and Control as a stream of messages. We note this makes both
collaboration
and universal access very straightforward and give examples of this. We
describe XGSP -- the Web service
collaboration control; NaradaBrokering the message handler and the
current
(incomplete) work on SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) and PowerPoint We
speculate on extensions to OpenOffice and Mozilla.
