Yikes. It is totally my fault. The handling of these merge and spawn options is done only for PetscInitialize() for C. Not for Fortran, hence the arguments just got ignored.<br>

Please find attached a file zstart.c put it in the directory src/sys/ftn-custom and run make in that directory (with appropriate PETSC_DIR and PETSC_ARCH set)<br>
<br>
Then link and run the example again.<br>
