I have built Petsc a lot of times with VC++ 2008 Express edition and Cygwin. I used to run C:\Cygwin\Cygwin.bat, and had no problem.<br>

I just looked into the batch file, and it contains:<br>

C:<br>
chdir C:\Cygwin\bin<br>
<br>
bash --login -i<br>

I am not sure what '-i' in bash parameters mean, but it may help you. Anyway, I still recommend you running the batch file itself.<br>
