"PETSc, pronounced PET-see (the S is silent), is a suite of data 
structures and routines for the scalable (parallel) solution of 
scientific applications that require algebraic solvers.  Many such 
applications are systems that are modeled by partial differential 
equations (PDEs).  PETSc may also be used with many systems that are 
modeled using systems of algebraic equations that do not arise from PDEs." ?
