Compilation error on Alpha (Tru64)

Greetings,

On a Compaq Alphaserver using the Tru64 compilers, the configure script 
aborts with the following message:

checking whether size_t and int size match... no
configure: error: This is a critical error; please report this size 
mismatch to the developers!

It appears that size_t is 64 bit while int is 32 bit. There is no 
obvious way to change this. Any suggestions?
